No, The Rest Of The World Isn't Laughing At US #wearetheworld

This is not my perception.

A friend in England writes to me on Whatsapp: "Just heard Trump saying an enormous amount of BS at the UN summit.  Basically said climate change doesn't exist, it's a scam, block borders, he brought peace in the world (fake), and America is doing better than ever.  The problem is that he is going to influence those that think the same. "

Then later, he continues: "Is anyone going to stop Trump? People used to get worried about for Obama wearing a tan suit, not this government just went back 100 years and is influencing Europe too. They restricted travel to European Commissioners for something about digital protection, since Trump wants to know whoever said anything bad about his government.  I don't know how he was voted."

Then, a Swiss friend sends a whatsapp message with a video: "Donald Trump just flew over my head." (throw up emoji).  On his way to World Economic Forum in Davos, she explains.  I do a google search and locate a YouTube video of Trump at the forum, blabbing on with his usual drivel about how great he is for the US and his country, a jumble of absurd lies.

Lastly, a friend from Scotland sends a funny voice text via Facebook Messenger:  "I thought Trump just liked orange but turns out he also likes green."

No, the rest of the world isn't laughing at us.  Instead, I perceive compassion, as much bewilderment and fear as we in the USA are feeling, and the need to laugh at such absurdity.  For too long now, the general sense in the states has been this mentality of US versus THEM coupled with the wild notion that America is the best country in the entirety of the world.  Then, there are some US citizens who see the atrocities of our government both within and without our borders and believe the laughter and derision from the rest of the world to be an accepted response.  However true that is, it is still a belief in our separation from the THEM.

Yet, those on the outside looking in, residing in countries both allied and enemy, recognize the global significance of the United States as well the reality that the political strivings and machination of all governments is not the fault of the citizen.

Perhaps this is our time in the Grand Ol' USA to experience the repercussion for harm done, yet again to be shaken awake from our numb slumber, to the real power of assiduousness that has always been present.  Yet in our suffering and striving to overcome the darkness, know that we are not alone, not a byline by others outward, but compassion is held, empathy and hope given, striving together with us for a better future, not for individual countries, not for the governing powers, but for We The People, citizens of the world, for that is truly what we are.

We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me

Preparing For The Apocalypse: Or How To Fight The (Toxic) Patriarchy, Part Two

As I was preparing for the next entry in this series, I was meditating further on what else is needed to prepare for the coming apocalypse, so much is needed both internally and externally.  But, as I go about my day, the resounding theme that comes to the fore-front following the need for 'self-care' is the vastness of community.

Merriam-Webster defines "Community" as:
: a unified body of individuals: such as
a
: the people with common interests living in a particular area
broadly : the area itself
the problems of a large community
b
: a group of people with a common characteristic or interest living together within a larger society
a community of retired persons
a monastic community
c
: a body of persons of common and especially professional interests scattered through a larger society
the academic community
the scientific community
d
: a body of persons or nations having a common history or common social, economic, and political interests
the international community
e
: a group linked by a common policy
f
: an interacting population of various kinds of individuals (such as species) in a common location

Thus, the idea of community spans wide.  Personally, I have always thought of community as simply "common unity" and what a better unifier of commonality than the dreaded existential reality of doom we collectively face in our country and world upcoming.

So, it's the coming together in that collective brokenness, of truly, authentically listening, being present, holding space, hearts, and each other.  In small quiet moments and sometimes large, seeking ways to give love and support, an ever present reminder that we are not alone, together in our suffering, we will overcome.

What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing?
And what do we think we might see?

Preparing For The Apocalypse: Or How To Fight The (Toxic) Patriarchy, Part One #fightthegoodfight #fightfascism

Like many in the United States, I've spent much of my time going about in deep thought and worry about the future of my country's democracy with the impending reality of a second Trump presidency.  Fearing for the rights, freedoms, and safety of those I dearly love, including myself, I ponder the overwhelming "Why?" followed quickly by the "How?" finally ending with "What then?"

The "What then" is what I wish to reflect upon in a series of this blog, "Preparing For The Apocalypse (Or How To Fight The Toxic Patriarchy).  In each entry, I will focus on one arena of life that can assist in the path towards healing and overcoming the toxicity that threatens to consume, what we can do to maintain our strength and sanity.  Resoundingly, what comes into my mind first, is the all important "self care".  Often a tossed about buzz word or even a 'get out of jail free card' manipulative ploy, nevertheless, the truth of its import still remains.  So, what does it mean to care for oneself?  What is the benefit of such?  And, what are some ways to care for oneself?

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Self Care is defined as "the ability of individuals, families and communities to promote health, prevent disease, maintain health, and cope with illness and disability with or without the support of a health worker" as well recognizes "individuals as active agents in managing their own health care".  (https://www.who.int/health-topics/self-care#tab=tab_1)
In an article from the Southern New Hampshire University, regularly employing a self-care routine has been "clinically proven to reduce or eliminate anxiety and depression, reduce stress, improve concentration, minimize frustration and anger, increase happiness, improve energy and more" as well are numerous physical benefits including longevity of life.  A regularly practiced self care routine will benefit physical health, greatly improve mental and emotional well-being, increase productivity and focus, make relationships healthier and better, increase self esteem and feelings of self worth, and, lastly, prevent burnout.  ( https://www.snhu.edu/about-us/newsroom/health/what-is-self-care )

These benefits of self care are what is greatly needed in order to prepare for, survive in the fight against the toxic patriarchy.

So, how does one establish and practice self care?  In a life busy with the realities of adulting coupled with the increasing rise of 'fascism', how does one find the time? But, in order to prepare, to survive, and fight in the coming apocalypse, find the time for self care we must.

From Marquette Today, Marquette University: Here are some practical tips for incorporating self-care into your daily routine:

  • Start with small steps: Begin by identifying activities that bring you joy and relaxation and allocate time for them regularly.
  • Create a self-care routine: Develop a schedule that includes self-care activities and treat them as non-negotiable appointments with yourself.
  • Practice mindfulness: Be present in the moment and engage fully in the self-care activities you choose.
  • Set boundaries: Learn to say no to activities or commitments that overwhelm you and prioritize your own well-being.
  • Seek support: Reach out to trusted friends, family or professionals when you need assistance or guidance.

https://today.marquette.edu/2024/08/the-importance-of-self-care-for-maintaining-mental-health/

Thus, let's begin today with an ongoing and active self-care routine, the first weapon in our arsenal to fight against fascism, to prepare for the apocalypse, and fight the toxic patriarchy.

I'll build a Stairway to Paradise,
With a new Step ev'ry day.
I'm going to get there at any price;
Stand aside, I'm on my way!
I got the blues
And up above it's so fair;
Shoes,
Go on and carry me there!
I'll build a Stairway to Paradise
With a new Step ev'ry day.

I shared a stage with a bully & it was terrifying. #BidenTrumpDebate

In 2014, I was cast in the play, God Of Carnage, for a local theatre company.  Excited for the challenge of such a dynamic and powerful story, I entered my first rehearsal with enthusiasm to meet my cast and director.  If you are unfamiliar with the storyline of God Of Carnage, it showcases two married couples coming together to work through a school-yard fight between their children.  As the weeks went on, one of the male actors would prove himself to be narcissistic and bullying.  He quickly manipulated his 'married' female counterpart and any that weren't swayed were considered an enemy to undermine.  Only a year out of an abusive marriage, being in the same room with him, no doubt sharing a stage, was trying and terrifying.  I recall standing up on stage with him, scenes of intense emotion, ankles shaking, yet as loyal as I am to my craft and art, to the theatre, to this particular play, the director, my other co-star, I continued night after night, show after show, to mount the stage at his side.

It helped immensely that my male counterpart, my director, and stage manager were aligned with me in recognizing the abuse of this actor. However, after the show closed, I watched as his acclaim continued in the local theatre scene.  Feeling alone and at risk of losing roles, I stood silent, said nothing, tried to smile in his presence, to be friendly in the face of his derision towards me as he continued to try to make it appear as if I was the 'mean unprofessional one'.  I knew the truth yet still felt silenced as this was still a few years before the #MeToo movement would become more visible.   Then, several years later, a play was announced to be directed by this man at another local theatre.  A good friend of mine worked as costume designer for the show and as production progressed, she began confiding in me of the atrocities she witnessed both personally and collectively by this man, including bullying and sexual misconduct, resulting in multiple young actresses leaving the production due to fear, announcing #MeToo on social media directly afterwards, and his being banned from the theatre.  As much as I felt horrible for these actors who suffered, I felt, at last, vindicated in the abuse I suffered, no longer, alone in my recognition of his true character.

Over the last year, in response to seeing dear friends be radicalized by this horrifical MAGA right, I have become a very avid consumer and sharer of a wide variety of political and current events articles, from across the aisle, mind you.  Yes, that's right, I follow the news media companies, "Crooked Media" (progressive),  The Intercept (far left), and The Bulwark (Republican) on a regular basis, just to name a few, and share them regularly.  In addition, I do not align myself completely with President Biden or would even label myself as a 'democrat', rather, I am leaning towards 'progressive' or 'democratic socialist'.  I haven't fully decided yet, but want to finally and fully make the choice of what affiliation for own myself, not based on how I was raised, religious connection, or personal friends.  Furthermore, I do not love President Biden simply because I hate Trump, in fact, I don't hate Trump or his followers.  And again, I have been pleasantly surprised by the enactments and bills passed by President Biden during his first term as well his ability to connect with and listen to the beliefs and thoughts of those who differ from his viewpoints.

Last night, the first 2024 presidential debate between President Biden and Donald Trump occurred.  As I was working, I was unable to view in its entirety, but plan on doing so, yet even so I have been hungrily consuming information across the aisle on reports and thoughts on the debate.  Those reports are detailing Biden's raspy voice, his seemingly slow start where he seemed discombobulated, unable to formulate his thoughts, and ended with a seemingly incoherent sentence.  However, they did conclude that as the debate continued Biden strengthened his arguments.  Fears are rampant today, claiming that Biden is too old, frail, and possibly, on the road to dementia.  As the avid consumer that I am, I have been aware of a wide variety of interviews, State of The Unions, and conversations that President Biden has done and have not seen signs of dementia as reported or contrived by clever editing.  In addition, President Biden has been open about his struggles with a stutter and has worked to overcome, yet, in times of nervousness, stress, or fatigue it returns.

Donald Trump has maliciously and incessantly attacked in a wide variety of ways those that oppose him, then lied about such, in an attempt to undermine, silence, nullify, in order for him to have all control and power.  A primary target of his has been his biggest opponent, President Biden.  As brave as President Biden was in calling for these debates, as much as he has done his best to not engage with the bullying, to tend first to the needs of the country and that of how the USA orients with the world affairs, as much as he has done to calm our fears, he is still a man walking onto a stage across from his bully.  Therefore, I do not feel the argument of 'too old, has dementia' is correct, nor do I feel Biden's people claiming he had a cold to be adequate, but rather to admit the trepidation he felt upon taking that stage.  No, I do not feel that would weaken him as his role of President, standing against heads of state and commanding power, but rather the opposite. In this post #MeToo, post covid19, post Trump era, when our country and the world has been shaken up from its patriarchal power revealing all of our inner biases, ignorance, inherent racism and misogynies, I feel the antidote and cure is to fully share our fears, our trepidations, inwardly and outwardly, then collectively applauding one another who take the stage standing up to and against the bullies.

Biden 46? A Call To Action!

Election 2020 is fast approaching and our country is in the most perilous position it has ever been.  I think the rational on both sides of the spectrum, right, left, and far, can agree to that, if not anything else.  Among the craziness of the protests, pandemic, and forest fires a plenty, there is also the wide division not between the parties but also within.

Those with my mindset lies the divide between the blue or the green, the democrat or the progressive.  Ultimately, whatever political belief you ascribe to, we all want the same thing, the best for our country, but moreover our world.  That is the commonality of which we all should rest upon and use that to fuel against hatred and evil, with that guiding us with a clear, focused conscience to vote with our own minds, no fear of judgment cast upon us.

Against my better judgment, I will most likely be voting for good ol' Joe this election.  I do not hold the same reservations and, even, repulsion towards him as I do for Mrs. Clinton, but I also know that with him at the helm it's not the ultimate best for us to impact true change, but it is what we need in order to salvage what remains of our country in order to save us from the burning fires of our impending doom.

So, Biden/Kamala has my vote, but what do I think that entails? Yes, Trump will be voted out and we can begin to sort of begin the reparations of our country.  Sort of.  I have a fear of voting Biden that will give me pause as my black pen lingers over the circle by his name.

The thing is, love him or hate him, Trump has done something to our country that is given us an element of the positive.  What the hell, you say? Hear me out.  (And I will also refer you to this past entry: Donald Trump may be the best "president" we've ever had!) With Trump at the helm and all the disarray and madness that ensued, the threat of our very livelihood and rights at stake, we have had to do the one thing we always truly feared, and do fear even out of the political realm, we have had to wake up from our comfortable and perceived safe lives.  We have had to fight and begin the revolution that "we the people" have always needed.

My greatest fear for a Biden presidency is after he takes office in January 2021, "we the people" will see the warm sparkle in his eye, the wide, welcome of the toothy grin, the call back to the Obama era, and we will ever so swiftly slip back into our comfortable and perceived safe lives, with the false trust that all is well and right with our little country and world.

I implore you, do not do this.  Do not lull yourself back to sleep.  Stay awake, continue to fight.  Joe Biden is just as much a puppet to the corporate system of our government, part of the establishment as anyone else.  He is not your hero, nor truly is Bernie Sanders, Donald Trump, Kamala Harris, Mitt Romney, or anyone else. See: Be You, Be A Hero!

The United States of America is your country first and foremost.  The governing officials are elected to serve you, not you them.  They are servants, not celebrities and should be treated and act as such.

So, yes, my black pen will most likely fill in the bubble by Biden's name, but I won't linger there.  My focus on getting my progressive views will look below his line with the express purpose of building the cause upwards on the ladder.  I will cast my vote for the other candidates and bills based on my personal belief and decision.  And, I will not blame or shame those that do not vote another way that may oppose mine and I ask that none do this to me.  We must be civil and stand in the pathway of love in order to enact true change for our country, our world, and the citizens of tomorrow, the children in our lives.

Stand in your belief, vote your conscience no matter what, and educate yourself to emphasize the integrity of that belief.

I'm Considering Jill Stein 'Cuz Bernie Endorsed Hillary

Now, before you get your panties in a bunch, or call me a Bernie deserter or "ridiculous" like Sarah Silverman thinks, read to the end of this blog.

I stand behind Bernie.  I am a Bernie or Bust person not because I am #neverhillary or because I want a Trump presidency.  (Let's be honest, no one but airheads and idiots really want that.)  No, I'm considering casting my vote for Ms. Stein (and mind you, I've already switched to Green Party) because of the reasons Bernie endorsed Hillary, so that he could ensure that the issues he stands for, the revolution he began, continues forth.

By standing strong in these issues, Bernie takes the focus off him, try as he might, and continues the revolution, #wethepeople, style.  In the end, he holds Hillary accountable for all the reform and change, the issues he stands for, for a truly greater America, as he endorses her candidacy.  In order to garner the support of his supporters, she has to agree to these requirements.

So, by endorsing Hillary, Bernie speaks his mind, he stays true to his values, his cause all along.  The Revolution continues forth unabated, with or without him.  As we felt the "Bern" with him, he stokes the fire for us to continue that "burn".

And, that is why I am moving towards Jill Stein.  Because I see that one of Bernie's focus is to change the democratic process from a two-party system.  Because as Bernie continues to speak his mind, let his voice be heard, and to champion for the causes that will benefit the American people, I believe and desire for my voice to be heard, to truly speak my mind, and cast my vote based on my conscience, my ethics, my morals, my truths.

Whether your candidate is Bernie, Jill Stein, or Hillary, or even Trump, or anyone else who ran for office, it was never about the name or the person.  We are in a time of turmoil and upheaval, of change and revival, Bernie Sanders fueled that fire and we felt that fire, and as he continues to speak, to share, he stokes that fire for us to continue to fan the flames of revolution.

Let's continue to "Feel the Bern" and fight for our country!
